| AEDATS III/IV |
AUTOMATIC DATA ACQUISITION TEST
SYSTEM
The AEDATS III test cell instrumentation and
processing system is an innovative, rugged
fourth generation system designed
specifically to eliminate the environmental
and supportability problems associated with
general purpose commercial computer
equipment. Utilization of AEDATS III with its
new graphic user interface results in
accurate and consistent engine tests and,
with the incorporation of Referred Engine
Diagnostic Data (REDD), the system assists
the operator in evaluating the condition of
individual engine modules. AEDATS III
includes the following capabilities:
- Monitors, displays, and records engine
and test cell data in real time
- Scales and converts inputs to
engineering units
- Provides continuous background safety
monitoring
- Alerts the operator when an unsafe
condition occurs
- Prompts the operator through the test
sequence
- Provides accurate and instant real time
recording of data
- Maintains and prints standard and
customized reports
- Performs engine diagnostics based on
manufacturer's performance criteria
The AEDATS III System consists of the
Signal Conditioning Control Unit (SCCU), CRT
Display, Keyboard, Printer, and Transducer
Panel. The heart of the system is the
innovative SCCU. This unique and compact unit
contains the signal conditioning, processing,
and memory storage for the system. The unit
accepts and processes the input parameters
present in the test cell. The main
microprocessor is a Pentium®
microprocessor which provides accelerated
computation speed for data acquisition,
correction, scaling, polynomial expansion in
performance analysis, and data input/output.
AEDATS is also available in the form of a
Portable Data Acquisition System (PDAS). This
system is perfect for test cell correlations
because it is accurate, reliable, and
portable.

| AEDATS IV: Virtual
Instrumentation |
| Howell Instruments offers an
optional upgrade for AEDATS III that provides
Virtual Instrumentation (VI), which replicates the
function of analog instruments currently in the
test cell. With VI, calibration errors related to
antiquated instruments are a thing of the
past. |
 |
 |
| With the optional AEDATS IV
Virtual Instrumentation package, continuous and
accurate monitoring of critical engine parameters
is presented on a flexible display arm, enhancing
safety by allowing the operator to position the
display to ensure he is able to view the engine at
all times. AEDATS IV provides for six "round dial"
gauges and up to ten linear bargraphs, complete
with limit indications and exceedance warnings. The
design of the displayed gauges is based on the
customer's needs. |
