BRAKE/HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TESTER |
Laboratory Accuracy in a Portable
Flightline
HowellÂ's H585 Series Brake Testers
give maintenance operators flightline
measurement of brake system pressures and
differentials for a variety of aircraft. All
models minimize fluid loss and maintain
hydraulic system integrity by incorporating
purging and bleeding (forward or back) as
routine operations in hydraulic system
testing.
Major Features:
- Digital accuracy in measurement and
readout for consistent, repeatable
results
- 5000 psi working pressure
- SKYDROL® or MIL-H-5606 compatible
models
- All stainless steel wet section
- T-handle bleed valves for positive
pressure control
- Self-sealing quick disconnects for hose
attachment
- Internal adjustment to ambient
pressure
- Aircraft-specific adapter kits
- 115 VAC, 50-400Hz
- Automatic Built-In Test (BIT) on
startup
- Software driven calibration
- EMI shielded microprocessor

Aircraft
Compatibility
Aircraft-specific adapter kits make the H585
series testers nearly universal in field
application. Kit availability includes:
- MIL-H-5606 or SKYDROL®
- KC/EC135 CHALLENGER 601
- C141 DC/KC10
- C130 KC-135R
- C17 MD80
- F15 C9
- F16
- A10
- B52
- C5
The unitÂ's flexibility can easily
support additional applications based on
customer specifications and needs.
Functional Description
An all stainless steel wet section receives
aircraft hydraulic pressure directly into the
transducers through rear panel pressure
ports. Positive control T-handle needle
valves are then used to bleed each transducer
to the rear panel purge port as required.
Back bleeding from the purge port through the
needle valves, and out through the pressure
ports is also easily performed during regular
maintenance. The H585 series uses safety
shutoff, safety release, quick disconnects on
four rear panel bleed ports and one purge
port. All bleed hoses, valves, and fittings
are rated to 5000 psi working pressure. The
SKYDROL® compatible model (H585S) uses
physically larger fittings to avoid
inadvertent mixing of incompatible fluids.
Also, all H585S electronic deck gaskets,
hoses, and any required aircraft O-rings are
SKYDROL® rated.
Independent Channels
The H585s independent pressure channel design
allows maximum flexibility in hydraulic
testing. Multiple testing configurations
allow a complete view of the systems under
test. Digital readout of each pressure avoids
ambiguities associated with pressure
gauges.
Instant Differentials
One-button differential measurements
instantly reveal pressure differences between
ports 1 and 2 and between ports 3 and 4 with
the higher pressure port showing the
differential. This feature greatly simplifies
time-related bleed-offs and drop testing by
automating required calculations.
